Most internet users still do not know what RSS is or how to use it, and consequently the RSS buttons on your blog mean absolutely nothing to them.
To overcome this problem, create a special RSS presentation page and link to it next to the RSS subscribe button. On that page explain:
* What RSS is
* How the visitor will benefit from using RSS
* Where they can get a free RSS aggregator (recommend one yourself!)
Also explain exactly how they can add the feed to their My Google , My
MSN , My Yahoo , Etc. ( See Links Below)
* How they can install it (provide step-by-step instructions)
* How they can subscribe to your RSS feeds
* Why they should subscribe to your own RSS feeds
* Then, on this same page, include the links to all of your RSS feeds.
If you do this and they subscribe to your feeds its the same or better than bookmarking.
Add the little buttons for My Yahoo , My Google , My AOL , My MSN and explain to the surfer on your presentation page exactly what to do.
http://www.google.com/webmasters/addfeed.html - Google Button
http://my.yahoo.com/s/button.html - Yahoo button
http://rss.msn.com/publisher.armx - MSN button
http://www.bloglines.com/about/subscribe - Bloglines Button
If you can get even a small percentage of the people coming to your Blog to subscribe to your sites feed guess what. One of the first things they are going to see when they turn on their computer is the new items from your site there on their home page. And if they see something interesting they will click through and come to your site.
Your Post Titles are important , ” Very Important “
I can not say this enough make the titles in your Blog posts interesting. Ask yourself does it have grab you value. Would it make you want to look. You have 1-3 seconds to get Joe Surfers attention. So spend some time on it and come up with some good titles for your Blog posts.
Think of it like this
Giant 300 Pound Man Eating Chicken
That title was used by PT Barum to get people into his side shows. What did they see when they got there. You guessed it a fat man setting there eating chicken.
You don’t have to go to that extreme but you have to sell yourself and the site or sites your pushing.
( Special Note )
Text Links under Banners
Guys and Gals if you put a banner on a page and don’t put a text link under it your totally missing out. Banners with text links under them will have a 3-1 click thru advantage over a banner with no text link. Just thought I would throw that in there.
