CHATSWORTH, Calif. – AVN Media Network today announced that Declan McCullagh will present the keynote address at the company’s Internext Expo, scheduled to take place Aug. 3-5 in Hollywood, Fla. McCullagh is the chief political correspondent and a senior writer for CNET’s News.com and since 1993 has been covering free speech, politics, and the Internet from a libertarian perspective.
On the opening day of the three-day conference, McCullagh will address the role the adult entertainment industry plays in maintaining free speech and how the industry can affect the political process. The one-hour presentation will take place from 11:15 a.m. -12:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3.
“The political situation in Washington, D.C., and the states makes 2007 a crucial time for free speech on the Internet,” McCullagh said. “I look forward to joining everyone at Internext this year.”
An award-winning journalist, McCullagh has served as the Washington bureau chief for Wired.com and a reporter for Time.com and Time magazine. His articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times Magazine, Playboy, and George, and he has appeared on numerous radio and television shows. He also has taught two First Amendment law courses at Case Western Reserve University.
Additionally, McCullagh was one of the plaintiffs in the 1996 challenge to the Communications Decency Act and has won a free speech award from the American Civil Liberties Union. He lives in San Francisco with his wife, an intellectual property litigator.
“Declan McCullagh is one of the preeminent journalists covering the intersection of technology and politics,” said AVN Online Editor Kathee Brewer. “There are few who are as respected, knowledgeable, and fun to read as he. I’m sure Internext attendees not only will be entertained by his wit as he recounts harrowing tales from inside the Beltway, but also will leave the keynote presentation with a renewed sense of urgency to exert some of the power the adult entertainment industry can and should have in the political process.”
